I look at my reflection in the mirror. I can’t believe that I’m doing this, but like Ellen said, it will be good for the new network. But I’ve seen Grady in his tux. Well, in pictures he’s hot. Overly hot. So. Fucking. Hot. My lady parts start singing songs to his damned beauty.

I roll my eyes because I need to keep my wits about me tonight. I cannot lose my head around Grady. We are going for work and that’s it. I can’t start fantasizing about going home with him, stripping him out of his tux, slipping my hands all over his amazing body, then sucking him until he comes.

I blink. Okay, that was kind of bad. I draw in a deep breath, calm my racing libido, then get my mind back on what is going on tonight. We are going to a Gala that raises money for military charities, and we are going to network with people who might like to advertise with us. Granted, these are all local or at least Texas-based businesses—and a few from Louisiana and Oklahoma, but many of them are aimed at people who hunt, fish, or are adrenaline junkies. Calling on them to put money into another local business is a good move, and we have always done that in the past.

I step back from the mirror and take a good look at the dress. It isn’t going to be the fanciest dress there tonight or the most intricate. In fact, it is simple with an off the shoulder design that lets me show of my hard work in the gym. I love my shoulders. I know it’s a weird thing to think. I grew up skinny and a little taller than other girls. It wasn’t until the last few years that I started working with weights, sculpting muscles. So, I don’t have a lot of curves, but they are there, subtle and feminine. The dark purple silk drapes my body perfectly. Nancy had tried to talk me into calling in a few favors at the network to get a hairdresser and makeup artist at my house, but I refused. I can handle a low bun updo in the back. It’s sexy. My makeup is a little darker than usual with a smoky eye, but not too much that I feel like it’s painted on. I have the sort of eyes that disappear if I put too much eyeshadow on, so I tend to go simple. I apply my lipstick, a red matte that I love. I smile, pretty proud of myself. I grab my phone and take a selfie in the mirror so I can send it to Nancy.

I know it’s something that women do all the time, but from the time we became friends, I needed this from Nancy. When I say Travis and I grew up poor, it is a bit of an understatement. Before moving to my grandfather’s house, we regularly didn’t have electricity because our mother “forgot to pay the bill.
